I am an Italian born artist, previously an architect, a principal designer. I commenced to do my artwork in response to September 11 and it's aftermath. I began to question the concept of legacy and permanence. I chose to work with the most vulnerable of media, paper, for its fragility. I sought to integrate model making, as well as found materials to generate sculptural reliefs. I used my understanding of structures and deconstructivism (forms defying gravity) to create works that appeared as if in flight. My works are rooted in the urgency of our time, representing an abstract depiction of concerns for our home, our planet, focusing on social, ecological and global issues. I explore mankind's role in the world and our mutual interdependence, the challenges in sustaining our environment, both micro and macro, and I ponder our responsibility for an embattled and fragile ecosystem. In an attempt to be green I gather found materials, which I hand-cut to create three-dimensional forms. Together, these small, hand-cut elements serve as my brush strokes, testing gravity and blurring the boundaries between drawing, painting, sculpture and collage.
